Wifredo Lam

Wifredo Oscar de la Concepcion Lam y Castilla, known as Wifredo Lam, was born on December 8, 1902, in Sagua Grande, Cuba, and deceased on September 11, 1982, in Paris.

Cuban painter, promoter of a mixed-raced painting, uniting occidental modernism and african and carribbean symbols, Lam created a contemporary and singular language. He invented his own language, unique and original, as to "defend life's dignity".

Closed to Picasso, to the Surrealists, Lam also knew the Imaginists, Phases and CoBrA.
