John Baldessari, born in National City (California) the 17th of June 1931, is a american conceptual artist, embodying the post-modernist movement, having recourse to photograph.
From 1959 to 1968, John Baldessari realised two types of works: narrative paintings, canvas on which letters are painted, and some "Fichues Allégories", photographs in reference to history of art.
From 1969 to 1977, Baldessari realised experimental movies and videos. Since 1980, he dedicated himself to canvas made of photographs, cinematic images which Baldessari collected, cropped and colorized.
Since 2000, Baldessari added painting to his photo-collages. He wished to create images assemblages. This contrast should be a spring of magic.
